The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is the world’s most successful orphan elephant rescue & rehabilitation program. This 1-hour public visit is the only time of day tourists can watch baby orphan elephants being fed milk and playing in the mud. It’s the #1 family activity in Nairobi. Keepers gather all visitors and introduce each orphan elephant by name. Learn their rescue story and explain the milk formula, rehabilitation process, and how the adoption program works. This is the magical moment. 10-15 baby elephants aged 3 months to 3 years run in from the forest for their midday milk bottle. Each elephant gets 3 liters of special formula milk. Why Sheldrick is unique: Since 1977, over 260 orphan elephants have been rescued from poaching, drought, and human conflict. After 3-5 years of rehabilitation, they’re reintroduced into Tsavo National Park. Photos: No flash allowed, but phone cameras welcome. Best photo spot is front row near feeding platform. After feeding, keepers answer questions about elephant conservation, poaching crisis, and how you can adopt an orphan. Visit the small souvenir shop - 100% of profits fund elephant milk + vet care.
