Your professional safari guide picks you up from Nairobi hotel, residence, or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport if you have a long layover. Drive south through Langata area to main gate of Nairobi National Park. Enter the 117km² park - the only national park in the world inside a capital city. Your guide starts game drive immediately because 6:30-8:30 AM is prime time for lions, cheetahs, leopards. You can also opt for an afternoon drive. Nairobi National Park has one of Kenya’s highest rhino concentrations. Spot endangered black rhinos grazing. There other herds of animals like giraffes, zebras, buffalo, hyenas and over 400 birds species including ostriches, secretary birds, eagles against the Nairobi skyline. The only Big 5 animal not resident here is elephant. The park also has unique views of wildlife with Nairobi skyscrapers and Kenyatta International Conference Centre tower in background. Stop at the historic monument where Kenya burned 105 tons of ivory in 2016 to fight poaching. Drive to Athi River section. Watch hippos, crocodiles, and water birds. If lucky, see lions drinking at riverbank. Exit through main gate and drop off at hotel or JKIA for afternoon flights. Tour ends with photos and memories of “safari in the city”.
